Igus expands robolink D modular kit with plastic gearing
Igus has expanded its robolink D modular kit with strainwave gearing in two sizes. The gearing, which is available as an individual component, or with an integrated NEMA17 or NEMA23 stepper motor, consists of an outer ring gear and a flexible wear-resistant inner ring gear made of iglidur high-performance plastic.
“The strainwave gearing has the advantage that it has minimal backlash, ensuring precise adjustment with incredible smoothness,” says Robert Dumayne, dry-tech director at Igus. “It is also very compact and has a high transmission torque ratio.” A typical application would be as the sixth axis of a robotic arm, that is, as a radial connection between arm and gripper.
The worm wheels for the new transmission ratios 1:30 and 1:70 of the robolink D worm gear also use iglidur materials. For these, Igus offers a decoupled option of motor and joint. The two components are connected to each other by an aluminium profile – the result is better weight distribution on the axis, enabling heavier loads to be lifted. The new universal gripper adapter allows the attachment of different grippers on the robolink D joints.
In addition, the online configurator allows users to configure and assemble custom robolink D joints. Motors, encoders, cabling, and other accessories are also available.
