New European harmonised standard for body SAR

EN 50566:2013 has now been listed in the EU Official Journal as the harmonised standard addressing RF exposure of handheld and body-worn wireless devices under Article 3.1(a) of the R&TTE Directive. Until now, many manufacturers have mistakenly believed that in the absence of a harmonised standard addressing handheld or body SAR, there was no requirement to test products for compliance. The publication of this new standard and its subsequent listing in the EU Official Journal should remove any uncertainty.

The exact title of the standard is: Product standard to demonstrate compliance of radio frequency fields from handheld and body-mounted wireless communication devices used by the general public (30MHz to 6GHz). The scope of the standard covers any wireless communication devices intended to be used with the radiating part in close proximity to the human body, including devices operated in front of the face.
