Spring debut for Southern Manufacturing & Electronics
When the 2016 Southern Manufacturing attracted 8,600 visitors, it set a new high water mark for the event. And with enhanced accessibility and investment in local infrastructure nearing completion, Southern Manufacturing is the place to head to this spring.
The event is well-established as one of the most important showcases for industrial technology in the UK. Divided more or less equally between Electronics and Manufacturing, and including a specialist Automotive/Aerospace zone, the show plays host to an enormous variety of manufacturers, vendors and service providers. In 2016 a little over 800 companies from all over the world showcased their wares in the 18,000m² venue. Among the key attractions for visitors in 2016, components and OEM parts figured strongly, alongside machinery and other hardware. Subcontracting, including electronics assembly and manufacturing, was also a top goal for many – over 45% of visitors came to find service vendors within these fields. So what does the 2017 show have in store for visitors?
Igus will showcase a wide range of cost-effective, lightweight and maintenance-free bearings and cable management systems for a variety of engineering applications. Visitors to the stand (N97) will see a several inspirational live demonstrations, including the drylin W curved rail system and Compact Rotation Module.
Like all drylin systems, the easy-to-install drylin W curved rails and self-aligning carriages do not require lubrication and therefore run maintenance-free. A pivoting spherical ball, made of the engineering plastic, iglidur J, is used to self-align the carriage for smooth, reliable movement along the rail.
The second show highlight on the igus stand will be the new Compact Rotation Module (CRM), an easy-to-install rotary system that guides different types of media – power, signals, data, fibre-optic, pneumatic and oil – through rotational movements of up to 360° degrees in tight spaces. Additional modules enable the angles of rotation to be extended ‘virtually’ indefinitely.
Key products on the HepcoMotion stand include the highly-regarded Guidance System for the Beckhoff XTS (eXtended Transport System). This solution utilises Hepco’s PRT2 and
1-Trak guidance systems to work with Beckhoff’s XTS circuit linear system to meet the needs of higher duty XTS applications where motion profiles and long-term durability requirements are particularly demanding.
The combination of technologies from Beckhoff and Hepco provides users with a robust, high production and flexible solution that will revolutionise production processes in many manufacturing applications. This system is ideally suited for a range of applications, such as a variable speed lane divider to sort randomly positioned items into separate lanes, or a double-sided system for a compact application that requires multiple motion profiles.
Henkel will demonstrate how its latest generation Loctite, Bonderite Technomelt and Teroson products can benefit the entire value chain. Whether the task is in system building, assembly or repair, these engineering adhesives, sealants and functional coatings improve performance and cut costs.
Core technologies including thread locking, sealing, gasketing, retaining, instant and structural bonding, will be demonstrated using the latest product introductions. Regardless of which substrates are chosen and the conditions that prevail, if it’s technically possible, Henkel can provide the most appropriate solution.
Continuous development across the range has now led to products that are more tolerant of contamination, able to support a wider range of operating temperatures and therefore be applied to a greater number of tasks.
As well as manufacturing transducers and instrumentation to measure displacement, force, pressure and torque, RDP Electronics is the sole UK and Eire distributor for MTS Temposonics industrial magneto-strictive sensors. At this year’s show, the company will introduce the MTS Temposonics GBM series displacement transducers which it says takes magnetostrictive technology to a new level of robustness.
For load cells (force or weight), fluid pressure and torque (reaction or rotating) the company offers the strain-gauge technology from Honeywell’s Sensotec and Lebow ranges. Load cell full scale ranges run from 250g to over 1,000 tonnes. Pressure transducers (gauge, absolute or differential) are available with full scales from 35mbar to over 10,000 bar. Torque transducers and systems have full scale capabilities from 70mNm to 2,500Nm.
