A more powerful stopper cylinder

A more powerful stopper cylinder

Festo has launched the DFSP, a reliable, robust and cost-effective series of stopper cylinders which the company says are the most powerful cylinders of their type in the market. This new cylinder can withstand up to 200% more impact force than its predecessors, meaning that engineers can now benefit from a more powerful stopper but at an affordable price.

“The DFSP is able to handle and stop heavy loads of up to 6,280N and is suitable for separating, stopping and indexing functions,” says Steve Sands, product manager at Festo. “These benefits make the series an ideal solution across many industries, including materials handling, machine tools, automotive and all sectors that utilise conveyor technologies.” 

The cylinder has an increased service life, enabling engineers to reduce costs associated with maintenance and downtime. The new DFSP is also available with an internal thread in the piston rod. This allows the possibility of mounting customer specific parts and tooling, for instance plates for braking systems. Other key features include reduced clearance between the piston rod and bearing, improving the accuracy of the cylinder, and protection against rotation, meaning the rod will always align the stopper blade precisely with approaching carriers. Three versions are available: trunnion, trunnion with female thread and roller. Within those options, users can choose between: single-acting, pulling; double-acting with spring, pulling; double-acting without spring; and with or without protection against rotation.

The DFSP is already a compact design, but features such as integrated proximity switches enable even greater space to be saved. Further, the DFSP has sensor slots on three sides for maximum versatility. In use, the DFSP enables fast and simple set up of conveyors, while workpiece carriers, pallets and packages weighing up to 90kg can be safely stopped. Mounting options include direct mounting on the bearing cap, directing mounting via flange on the bearing cap, through-hole mounting, and direct mounting on the end cap.

“Compared with our previous stopper cylinders and others on the market, the DFSP meets a wider range of application requirements. The additional features combined with an attractive price, and improved reliability means the DFSP will be the best performing stopper cylinder on the market,” continues Sands.
