All part of the service

All part of the service William Hughes asserts that its combination of experience and confidence, together with a powerful and flexible production plant, translates into high volume manufacture of a wide variety of springs, all of a consistent quality and offering repeatability day after day and batch after batch at low unit cost. Springs are then delivered to the customer using the company's own transport, supporting a variety of delivery systems such as Kanban and direct-to-line supply. Direct delivery to the customer's production line is a feature of this business and has been for the past 15 years. The spring maker is expected to allow no interruption to his capacity to keep pace with the customer's rate of production, and there can be no question of faulty product. Small wonder that almost one-eighth of William Hughes engineers are dedicated to quality control. Recently a major manufacturer of electrical switchgear sought to rationalise the number of suppliers of springs, and opted for single sourcing. As part of the bargain the spring maker agreed to purchase the whole of the client's inventory of springs and to continuously monitor the user's rate of consumption. A William Hughes engineer now makes routine visits to the electrical goods manufacturer, checks the contents of every appropriate tote bin and tops them up as required, each with the correct spring type.
