Automating the reading of 2D codes

Automating the reading of 2D codes In today's production processes, 2D codes such as the data matrix code are now a primary choice. Frequently the reading of the code needs to be automated. Panasonic is meeting these requirements with the likes of the PD50 vision sensor. The PD50 is a price-competitive vision sensor designed to read data matrix ECC200 and QR codes. QR codes are commonly used in Asia, and bearing in mind the high levels of imported goods, are also of significance in Europe. The PD50 can securely and reliably read these codes no matter if they are rotated, mirrored, inverted or distorted. Even solid or damaged codes can be read well with the PD50, due to its high-quality filter algorithms. Even if the codes have been marked on metal using needles the PD50 can decode reliably since the sensor is stable against most reflection that may occur. Typical read rate of the PD50 is in excess of 30 codes per second. The PD50 range includes seven different variations, depending on field size and working distance. Even with the smallest viewing field, the PD50 can recognise codes with a cell size of only 28x28 microns.
