Bosch Rexroth takes electrohydraulics to the next level

The term 'electrohydraulics' can mean different things to different people. It can mean something as simple as the integration of a sensor within a hydraulic actuator, but is increasingly coming to be viewed as the combination of classic hydraulic components with sophisticated electronic elements such as amplifiers. Now Bosch Rexroth has taken the state of the art to a new level with the 'integrated axis controller', where the closed loop control circuit can be connected locally to the axis. This integrated intelligence has been made possible with the availability of powerful microcontrollers that are both temperature and vibration resistant. The integrated axis controller incorporates almost all the same functionality as comparable external closed loop control electronics. For communication with the wider control system, different fieldbus options are available to extend diagnostics capabilities. Such integration simplifies the overall system architecture and further opens up to the possibility of remote control.
