Double safety brake meets demanding BGV standards
Said to be ideal for cranes, winches and hoisting devices, the ROBA-secustop is a new compact double safety brake from Mayr.

Designed to meet the demands of EN81 and the BGV-C1 and BGV-D8 Plus standards, the ROBA-secustop from Mayr Power Transmissions is cost-efficient, intrinsically safe in operation, maintenance-free and noise damped. Factory pre-setting, combined with 100% testing and inspection, guarantees the highest possible operational safety and reliability. There are three sizes in the range, providing 2x4Nm, 2x8Nm and 2x16Nm.

Complying with the BGV standards makes the new brakes ideal for use in chain hoists for stage and theatre technology. Within these standards there are levels which define precisely for which tasks the likes of chain hoists are approved. In order to comply with BGV-C1 and BGV-D8 Plus, hoists must be equipped with two independent DC brakes.

When using a chain hoist according to BGV-D8, loads must only be moved for the assembly or disassembly of carrier constructions. Moreover, no people are allowed to stand under the load. After lifting the load, it must be secured and the chain must be relieved. This procedure is also called 'hanging dead'. Normally this kind of hoist is only equipped with one brake and is therefore not approved for load holding or for stage utilisation. The motor is not used again until disassembly. This still is the most common application of electric chain hoists in event technology.

In order to comply with the BVG-D8 Plus or even BGV-C1 standards, chain hoist must be equipped, among other things, with two independent DC brakes. The ROBA-secustop fits these demands perfectly. The compact and enclosed design guarantees easy handling and installation. the working air gap is set and does not require re-adjustment. This means that malfunctions due to operating and readjustment errors are already ruled out constructively. The ROBA-secustop is equipped with an integrated damping unit for the reduction of switching noises. Before delivery, every brake is subjected to a complete inspection in its finished state at the place of manufacture in order to guarantee the highest level of operational safety and reliability. Maintenance work is limited to inspection of the friction hinges, which are extremely wear-resistant and have a very long service life.

Hanging dead
BGV-D8 Plus extends the scope of BGV-D8 to cover electric chain hoists for load holding. This makes the time-consuming 'hanging dead' procedure unnecessary. Standing under moved loads and stage utilisation are still not allowed for these hoists, but people are allowed to stand under the lifted and stopped loads.

Electric chain hoists according to BGV-C1 comply with the highest safety requirements. These so-called point hoists are approved for moving loads even when people are standing underneath. This is valid for both assembly and disassembly work as well as for stage utilisation during shows and events.

Mayr Power Transmission offers a wide range of brakes for stage-technology installations. The new ROBA-secustop, an extremely economic safety brake for electric chain hoists and hoisting devices, is the perfect addition to this product range. Other safety braking products of interest include the ROBA-multiswitch fast acting rectifier, developed for switching safety brakes quickly and capable of emitting a constantly controlled DC voltage independent of the mains voltage. This means that complex adaptation of the magnetic coils to varying input voltages becomes unnecessary. Over-excitation on switch-on ensures that the connected brakes release extremely quickly. The ROBA-multiswitch for mains voltages of 100-240V AC works using a controlled over-excitation of 90V DC.
