Eurozone pulling out of recession

Markit's Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) has seen Eurozone figures hit 50.4, up from 48.7 in June, signalling stronger growth in the manufacturing sector across Europe. The hope is that, with this renewed activity and optimism, manufacturing could lead the Eurozone out of recession. Anything above 50 represents growth

Manufacturers reported the largest monthly increase in output since June 2011, registering an expansion for the first time since February of last year. New orders for manufactured goods rose for the first time since May 2011, buoyed by a slight increase in new export orders.

Commenting on the PMI data, Markit chief economist Chris Williamson said: "The best PMI rading for one and a half years provides encouraging evidence that the Euro area could - at long last - pull out of its recession in the third quarter."
