First Machinery Safety Alliance seminar hailed a success
Around 40 delegates attended the inaugural seminar organised by the newly formed Machinery Safety Alliance. The Alliance has been set up by a Pilz, Festo, Fortress Interlocks, Troax, Werma and UK Engineering - companies closely involved with providing machine safety products. The aim of the Alliance is to provide delegates with straightforward and impartial answers to many aspects of machinery safety and compliance with current regulations.
Delegates heard presentations from the suppliers which gave their expert insight into aspects of machinery safety and were supported by the HSL (formerly HSE). Held at the Space Centre in Leicester, delegates were able to look around an exhibition area set up by the organisers for the event as well as being able to look around the Space Centre exhibition during the breaks. Most encouragingly, there was some very positive feedback to this event. Roger de Toney of Deal Intact commented that the event provided "a useful overview that put a number of issues regarding machinery safety into perspective," and that it "will be useful for future activities associated with risk assessment, equipment purchasing, and providing industry guidance."
Neil Procter of British Gypsum said the event was a "good intro to set the scene, with an excellent mix of knowledgeable speakers."
The next event will be held at the Concorde Conference Centre at the Runway Visitor Park at Manchester Airport on 27 June 2012.
