Light curtains assessed and approved to SIL3
The new British-designed and manufactured Guardscan GS140 and BV140 light curtains from Tapeswitch are among the first in the world to be independently assessed and approved to safety integrity level (SIL) 3 of BS EN 61508, the standard for functional safety of electronic and programmable electronic safety systems.
This radically different standard considers all aspects of the safety life cycle for design conception to decommissioning and in order to achieve SIL3 the probability of dangerous failure has to be better than once every 1,145 years of continuous 24-hours-per-day operation. The curtains are also approved to BS EN 62061 (the industry sector version of BS EN 61508) and BS EN 13849-1 (the successor to BS EN 954-1) as well as Type 4 to EN 61496 (the standard for light curtains).
Both light curtains are based on the construction of the B Series product, which has been giving reliable service for almost ten years, but with an improved scrolling alphanumeric diagnostic display. The display is especially useful in identifying external problems, such as external wiring faults, which are easily rectified thereby saving precious production time.
