Modular Automation under new ownership

Modular Automation under new ownership
A fresh start for Modular Automation International has seen the company launch under a new name, at a new site, and under new ownership.

Expert Modular Automation Ltd was formed when leading engineering company The Expert Group took over the bespoke production line machinery manufacturer when it went into administration.

Established in 1975, Modular Automation International had installed more than 1,200 automated assembly machines prior to the buy-out, and became the UK's leading automation system builder in its heyday in the early 1980s and 1990s. It worked across several industries, including the automotive, pharmaceutical, medical device, electronic and food and beverage sectors.

All operations have now moved from Small Heath in Birmingham to The Expert Group's headquarters on Wickmans Drive in Coventry, and the new owners have managed to retain key personnel in the engineering, design, manufacturing, project management and commissioning departments.

The Expert Group - established in 1991 - operates from three sites across the country and now has in excess of 50 people working from its Coventry facility, with founder and managing director Angelo Luciano confident the new arm of the company will play a major part in its growth plans.

He said: "Modular Automation had a very high quality reputation in its field. By bringing it into the Expert fold we believe we will be able to build its customer base and make it a successful concern, now that the key personnel and facilities have been integrated, which in turn has increased our depth and strengthened our skill base.

"This will also allow us to move into new sectors and open fresh markets and so far the signs have been very encouraging.

"We have a strategic growth plan to become a leading supplier within Europe and with Modular now part of the Expert Group it is the largest independent supplier of production line automation across a broad range of industrial sectors in the UK.

"The acquisition and relaunch of Modular Automation is a considerable step towards that target and represents a very exciting development for The Expert Group."
