Rack and enclosure specialist opens in the UK

Rack and enclosure specialist opens in the UK You'll probably recognise the name Retex straight away from the host of products that have been available for years in this country through the likes of RS, Farnell CPC and rapid. Now, though, the company has opened premises in the UK to service both distributors and OEMs directly. And while the products are clearly of high quality, what's really interesting is some of the innovations behind them.

Take, for example, the company's Logic2 range of flat-pack, self-assembly 19in rack systems. If the idea of a self-assembly rack brings you out in a cold sweat, then it shouldn't because these can be assembled in just five minutes. Unlike other racks that you can buy as flat-pack versions, these have been designed from the outset specifically for self assembly, with just eight bolts.

Where might flat-pack be important? Well, if you're installing your racks in areas where access is a bit of a challenge, a flat-pack solution is a real boon. As an example, Spanish system integrator Abantia faced just such a problem in implementing the automation and communication system for the new Line 9 of the Barcelona metro, a driverless train network running over 50km and with 52 stations. The required racks - some 768 of them - had to be installed 90m down, with no elevator available. The flat-pack system was the perfect solution, and according to Abantia more than halved the installation time. This was important since, as with many civil products, the schedule was extremely tight.

The products had to be reliable, too: Abantia was tasked with assuring availability of 99.98% - which equates to downtime of just ten minutes per year. In addition, a number of special modifications to the racks were required. All of that made Abantia's choice of rack partner critical, so the fact that it chose Retex speaks volumes for the quality of the products.

That same quality extends to industrial and electronic enclosures as well, where the company has brought together one of the most com-prehensive ranges of steel, aluminium and polycarbonate enclosures on the market. Most recently, Retex has introduced a die-cast enclosure range. Protected to IP68 as standard, and available powder coated in a variety of colours, these strong enclosures are available in six sizes. Customisable  options include machined entries for cable glands.
