RS Components extends 3D printing portfolio

RS Components has announced availability of a host of new 3D printing solutions to enable the rapid prototyping of products by electronics and mechanical designers and engineers.

New products in the RS rapid prototyping portfolio include the addition of the Ultimaker 2 'Go' and Ultimaker 2 'Extended' printers to the existing Ultimaker 2 desktop 3D printer, all of which are based on the widely used Fused Filament Fabrication (FFF) technology and allow the choice of a wide range of material filaments including popular choices such as PLA and ABS.

The Ultimaker 2 'Go' is a highly compact and lightweight 3D printer that offers a friendly interface, making it an ideal starter machine for users new to 3D printing, yet offering printing at a premium level. The Ultimaker 2 'Go' is not equipped with a heated bed and therefore enables fast printing without delay. Offering a build volume of 120 x 120 x 115mm, the machine's highly compact slim-line design and dedicated travel case means the product is highly portable and is ideal for use across different locations.

Meanwhile, the Ultimaker 2 'Extended' printer boasts some of the highest speed and accuracy found on any desktop 3D printer and offers a large build volume of 230 x 225 x 305mm and a heated bed with an operating temperature range from 50 to 100°C. Specifications common to all the Ultimaker 2 printers include 0.02mm layer resolution; build speed ranging from 30 to 300mm/s; a nozzle temperature of 180 to 260°C; nozzle/filament diameter from 2.85 to 0.4mm; and stand-alone SD card printing for 3D-model file upload.

Designed to work in conjunction with 3D printers is the new and highly affordable Matter & Form desktop 3D scanner. The scanner has a moving high-definition camera head with dual lasers and a rotating platform that delivers fast, easy and accurate scanning of 3D objects, often completing the task within a few minutes.

Capturing approximately 2000 points per second - ±0.25mm precision and ±0.43mm resolution and therefore providing a very high level of surface detail, this scanner rivals many of the more expensive 3D scanners currently available on the market. Offered in a sleek and foldable design with dimensions of 34.5(H) x 21(W) x 34.5/8.5cm(L, open/closed) and weighing as little as 1.71kg, the fully assembled and tested scanner captures objects that are up to 18cm in diameter and up to 25cm high, and can save scans in .STL, .OBJ and point-cloud .PLY formats.

The final product in the extended 3D printing portfolio from RS is the Dremel 3D Idea Builder printer, which is an exceptionally easy-to-use, consumer-friendly 3D printer that enables fast set up and users to be printing objects within minutes. Its fully featured design includes a 3.5in colour touchscreen panel and a pre-installed extruder, as well as intuitive software including Autodesk software CAD tools specifically tailored for use in 3D printing and a portfolio of models ready for printing. Key specifications include: a removable platform - offering a build volume of 228 x 149 x 139mm - for precise object removal; layer resolution of 0.1mm; and usage of 1.75mm PLA filament, which is highly suitable for home use.

The Ultimaker 2 'Go' and 'Extended', Matter & Form 3D scanner, and Dremel 3D Idea Builder are all now shipping from RS Components in France, Germany, Austria and Switzerland (DACH), and the UK.
