Southern Manufacturing promises something for everyone

Southern Manufacturing promises something for everyone

Southern Manufacturing and Electronics returns to FIVE Farnborough from the 10th to the 12th of February 2015. The show is the essential industrial technology event, covering just about everything, from leading-edge additive manufacturing, composites and advanced electronics to the modest spanner.

The show claims to deliver something for everyone, and with exhibitors drawn from the entire spectrum of manufacturing undertaking and every type of supplier from Tier 1 to Tier 4, that claim is certainly not an empty promise. Along with the brand-new three-day format, the show features an unprecedented number of international exhibitors, with vendors from the USA, Japan, Taiwan and continental Europe showcasing their products in 2015. Additional developments visitors will notice include a completely redesigned internal layout, which aims to improve traffic flow around the venue.

Southern Manufacturing is the first, and for many the most industrial show of the year. Southern Manufacturing and its Northern sibling event consistently enjoy enthusiastic patronage from leading manufacturing companies across the UK, not forgetting the increasing number of supporters from further afield. A prolonged three-day tenancy helps to make the exhibition much more tempting to international exhibitors, and the results of this are apparent in the exhibitor list for 2015, which includes an unprecedented number of international firms. For visitors, this gives a extraordinary chance to meet many important overseas vendors and enjoy world-class displays and product launches without having to venture too far from home.

But this is merely one aspect of an event that remains very much directed at the needs of small to medium-sized UK businesses. Being regionally oriented to the South gives it a particular relevance to firms located south and east of the Midlands, down to the South West and across South Wales. The stand pricing has remained affordable, which encourages smaller specialist firms to participate. Lastly, it is a lot easier to get to than the NEC or ExCel; The FIVE site, home to the world-famous airshow, is near to the M3 and is well served by public transport. There's free admission and free on-site car parking so that visitors can fit a visit to the show into their regular workday. The longer opening times will likely make it that much easier for visitors to organise their trip to Farnborough.

As usual, there is going to be plenty to discover: In 2015, visitors will yet again meet a tremendous choice of suppliers, from leading machinery vendors such as Amada, Bystronic, Trumpf, Bruderer, Yamazaki Mazak, XYZ Machine Tools and Matsuura, to every kind of component, production hardware, consumable and engineering service. Exhibitors are organised by both area and by a number of Technology Trails which assist visitors looking into specific activities, such as Automotive/Aerospace, around the venue. A Trail features suppliers from many different disciplines who are involved in that particular sector. A visitor following the Aerospace trail, for example, will see not only precision engineering firms but close-tolerance sheet metal, coatings and electronics manufacturers supplying the aerospace industry. So in spite of the remarkable variety of services and products on show, it is actually pretty simple for visitors to track down what they are seeking.

The complementary technical seminar programme that runs over three days in two theatres is an additional key element of the show. The programme for 2015 presents the usual noteworthy line-up of specialists from industry, academia and commerce, among them The CE Marking Association, TUV Sud, York EMC Services and Kings College London. No less than 28 sessions address topics such as design, exporting, Lean, and EU legislation. A complete listing of sessions and the online reservation form is available at www.industrysouth.co.uk.

Admission to the event and also the technical seminars is free to business visitors, and FIVE Farnborough offers plentiful free car parking and easy access by road or public transport.
