Southern Manufacturing returns to Farnborough

February 2016 sees the return of the Southern Manufacturing exhibition to FIVE, Farnborough. As one of the UK’s most successful and enduring engineering shows, Southern Manufacturing 2016 looks set for another sell-out year.

Southern Manufacturing and Electronics is without doubt the main manufacturing show in the South, if not the whole UK. After years of consistent growth, the event nowadays exerts a considerable influence over a significantly larger area, regularly drawing in visitors and exhibitors from across Europe and progressively further afield.

At over 18,000 square metres, and hosting in excess of 800 exhibitors, the show is  a ‘big league’ event by any measure, and a key event in the UK engineering calendar. The show is in fact three events in one; Manufacturing, Electronics and the specialist aerospace/automotive section, Auto-Aero. With so much to choose from in one place, Southern 2016 has considerable appeal and for that reason draws attention from an equally broad selection of exhibitors from every part of the UK, from around continental Europe or even further afield.

The show’s purpose built venue is in fact more capacious than five halls of the NEC combined; certainly big enough to attract the sort of big-name companies that you’d usually have to trek to Birmingham or mainland Europe to meet.

Southern Manufacturing and Electronics is amongst the greatest market places in the country for all varieties of manufacturing hardware, embracing just about any possible engineering process from electronics and automation to metrology and fabrication. Many of the firms returning for 2016 will need no introduction: Amada, Bystronic, Igus UK, Haas Automation, Matsuura, Yamazaki Mazak, Olympus, Nikon, Faro, Schunk Renishaw… The list reading like a who’s who of industrial technology.

Complementing these well-known names are hundreds of others, providing all manner of components, consumables and production technology covering just about everything from cutting edge adhesives, engineering plastics, CAD/CAM, 3D Printers, components, labelling and marking systems, clean room contractors – even flooring and lighting. The number of companies involved is simply astonishing, making Southern Manufacturing and Electronics a rare opportunity to meet with an incredible array of suppliers in a single day.

Combined with exhibition and demonstration areas, the show’s free seminar programme is also a hugely popular draw. Two programmes run in tandem in two theatres, focusing on manufacturing and electronics respectively, encompassing discussions on technical innovations, business management, marketing plus current business legislation. Free access of this level of high-calibre engineering and business acumen is without a doubt a powerful additional reason for engineering professionals to attend.

Southern Manufacturing runs at FIVE in Farnborough from 9-11 February 2016.
