Taking the heat out of the situation

Taking the heat out of the situation Vortex cooling techniques provide an effective solution to the problem of thermal protection of electrical enclosures, keeping internal temperatures down and helping to reduce critical control failures. A vortex cooling enclosure cooler uses a vortex tube to convert a filtered, compressed air supply into refrigerated air without the use of electricity, ammonia or other refrigerants. The vortex tube creates cold air and hot air by forcing compressed air through a generation chamber which spins the air centrifugally along the inner walls of the tube at a high rate of speed (1,000,000 rpm) toward the control valve. Vortex coolers are available from ITW Vortec for NEMA 4, 4X and 12 rated enclosures and, with a minor modification, are well suited for use in hazardous environments as well. At a fraction of the cost of air conditioners, vortex coolers also offer ease of installation, compact size and very low maintenance when compared to a refrigerant-based air conditioning unit.
