Threaded inserts

Threaded inserts PSM International will have a full range of fastener products on display, including inserts for plastics, self-clinching fasteners, flangeform fasteners and special fasteners. Of particular interest is the TRI-STEP, a unique three stepped threaded insert and mating hole combination, designed for heat or ultrasonic installation into thermoplastic materials. The design incorporates two diameters of opposing helical knurls and a series of annular vanes.

TRI-STEP includes a high strength oversize design and a thin walled design that is available in two standard lengths. Both ranges provide high performance, excellent location, reduced insertion time and low in-place cost. Key advantages include: a high pull-out and direct torque performance; a large clearance between the leading vane diameter and top hole diameter, equivalent to tapered insert designs; and excellent location, eliminating misalignment during installation. The design eliminates insert spring back after installation, commonly associated with tapered inserts, and it provides an increased surface contact area with mating components giving greater resistance to a torque induced 'jack-out'.

High strength and thin walled ranges are available. The thin walled range available in two standard lengths. Materials include brass, aluminium, steel and stainless steel, and PSM International says the aluminium versions give a 66% weight reduction and insertion process cost savings.
