Zero-backlash gearheads - without gears
Following on from the successful launch of Kamo Seiko's miniature indexing devices earlier in the year, Precision Motion (COFIL) is now introducing the Japanese manufacturer's range of zero-backlash speed-reducers to the UK market.

Available in both co-axial and right-angle configurations, these patented speed reducers utilise precision ground steel balls as the transmission medium. The benefits when compared with the more conventional planetary or cycloidal gearboxes include: no clearances, therefore zero-backlash; rolling contact, therefore reduced noise and long life; high efficiency; high torque capacity; and high precision repeatable positioning.

There is a huge choice of input/output options to suit all applications, including a version to allow direct fitting of NEMA 11 to 34 frame motors. In addition, the housing is designed to facilitate easy addition of custom made flanges for special applications. Reduction ratio's are available from 5:1 to 1600:1, with rated output torque capacity ranging from 1.6Nm to 98Nm.

Referring to the collaboration between the two firms, Precision Motion Managing Director Stuart Smith says: "Although Kamo are very well established in Asia and the USA, they were keen to develop a stronger European presence. With our background in fixed stroke cam-operated motion control and positioning solutions, the addition of this product range is perfectly synergous and helps us expand into the field of varying stroke servo-motor applications."
