Ixthus distribution partner wins NASA award

Engineering staff at Strainsert, the USA-based premier force sensor manufacturer represented in Europe by Ixthus Instrumentation, has earned a Special Achievement award from NASA’s Capsule Parachute Assembly System (CPAS) Team for conceiving, designing and testing custom force sensors used in their successful CPAS-EDU-CDT-3-16 airdrop test. The CPAS parachutes are being developed for NASA’s Orion spacecraft programme which will send astronauts to deep space destinations beyond the moon and bring them safely back to earth.

Fuchs Lubricants opens new depot in the heart of Norfolk

Fuchs Lubricants has extended its UK presence by launching a new depot in East Anglia. Fuchs took on the depot in Dereham as part of its acquisition of the Batoyle Freedom group to add to its UK head office in Stoke-on-Trent. Fuchs elected to keep the depot open to continue local supply to former Batoyle customers and Fuchs customers based in the region.

SKF innovation helps floating tidal energy project secure £0 million grant

SKF’s industry leading technology and design engineering support is forming part of a ground breaking floating tidal energy project that has been awarded a €10 million (£7.75 million) European Commission (EC) grant. The Floating Tidal Energy Commercialisation (FloTEC) project, led by Scotrenewables Tidal Power, has been recognised by the EC’s Horizon2020 programme for its ability to illustrate how floating tidal systems can provide low-cost, high-value energy to the European grid mix.

KTR starts up new test bench

KTR started up a new test bench for large couplings covering a performance range up to 500,000Nm at its headquarters in Rheine. The test bench allows to mechanical coupling parameters to be calculated and service life testing to be performed. Testing sample of the initial testing series is a torque limiter intended to be used on an 8MW offshore wind energy plant.

Toyota selects EtherCAT

Toyota Motor Corporation has selected EtherCAT as its Industrial Ethernet technology of choice and will base its new factories around the world on EtherCAT. The global announcement was made by Morihiko Ohkura, General Manager of the Production Engineering Innovation Division at Toyota Motor Corporation during an EtherCAT Technology Group (ETG) press briefing at Hannover Messe 2016.
