Controller is more versatile

A pulse output function to simplify stepper motor control and serial protocol support for easier interfacing are among the new facilities which Moeller Electric has added to the latest versions of its Easy 800 programmable relays. The company has also upgraded its MFD Titan products by providing new display and program options. With the new pulse-output function block, Easy 800 programmable relays can be used to control stepper motor drives directly. This saves money, saves space, and simplifies system design.

When does bespoke design become practical?

When installing cable management products, getting all the equipment you need from stock is not always possible. Making sure expectations are met, while sourcing the correct equipment to the usual tight timescale - and all within a given budget - can be a major challenge. Inevitably this means that bespoke equipment has to be considered at some stage during the build process. But the perception is that sourcing bespoke equipment will be more difficult and expensive than standard items from stock. So when does bespoke become practical?

Desiccants, but not as we know them

Silica gel bags, which have been keeping packaging and sensitive technology dry for generations, could soon be a thing of the past, with North London company Brownell now ready to export VMAP - a new and far more practical desiccant. Unveiled recently after several years of development, VMAP represents a breakthrough in desiccant technology, standing out in its versatility. It can be moulded or machined to complex shapes as required to fit specific applications, and can be fixed in place easily with adhesives or screws. Each cubic centimetre has an effective surface area of 600m3 and goes further than traditional desiccants in not only dealing with moisture but can adsorb odours and organic volatiles too. Unlike traditional gel bags, it is non-toxic, and it can also be 'recycled'.

Touchscreens at reduced cost

New from IDEC is the HG1F touchscreen display. This replaces the successful HG1B display with a unit that has many improved functions but at a cost reduction of 38 percent. A bright (500 cd/m2) high contrast monochrome LCD has a resolution of 300x100 pixels and carries sixteen adjustable brightness levels. An analogue touch panel means objects can be expanded from the minimum 16x16 pixel size and placed anywhere on the screen. The ability to display your application in landscape or portrait mode with scrollable pages means the HG1F has the ability to handle most complex tasks.

ATEX approved enclosures

Spelsberg has developed two new ranges of Ex rated enclosures designed to assist electrical systems installers and equipment designers in meeting the ATEX requirements for zones 2 and 22 explosion endangered areas. The new Black Abox Ex and TK Ex boxes offer moisture ingress protection to IP65 and IP66 respectively.

Small size shielding strips

TBA ECP has introduced new small size beryllium copper EMI/RFI shielding strips that are designed for use in applications where very narrow gaps are encountered. The ECP620 gaskets are ideal for bidirectional applications including sub-rack assemblies, plug-in units, front panels, back-planes and other shielding and grounding enclosure applications requiring high shielding effectiveness for narrow gaps.
