At the core of the M5 sensor's capabilities is its sapphire lens. Engineered for superior optical clarity, this lens provides unwavering performance even in the most challenging industrial environments, where dust or abrasive particles are prevalent. Its resistance to wear and scratches, coupled with ease of cleaning, ensures consistent and reliable operation over extended periods.

Despite its compact M5 housing, the sensor projects a narrow, cylindrical light beam. This precise targeting capability is crucial for accurate detection in confined or difficult-to-access spaces. Further enhancing its robustness, the M5 offers recessed mounting options, providing additional protection against impact and abrasion - a vital consideration in demanding applications.

The M5 photoelectric sapphire sensors have garnered global acclaim for their compact design, energy efficiency, and high-quality optics. The tightly focused sensing beam allows these sensors to excel even in the most compact machinery. Integration is often highlighted as a key benefit, with integrated electronics eliminating the need for complex adjustments, making installation swift and straightforward. Their performance characteristics have made these miniature sensors indispensable across a broad spectrum of industries, from high-speed manufacturing lines to complex logistics systems.

Configurable sensing with ASIC technology

Equipped with Contrinex's advanced ASIC platform, the M5 sensor now offers sophisticated IO-Link connectivity. This integration facilitates effortless teach-in procedures, sensitivity adjustments, and comprehensive configuration. The result is optimised detection performance across a wide array of materials and surface finishes, with significantly reduced sensitivity to variations in colour or reflectivity.

Ease of integration and mounting is a hallmark of the M5, allowing for flexible installation using standard brackets or drilled holes. The superior quality optics generate a tightly controlled and narrow beam, allowing the sensor to be effectively recessed. This provides inherent protection against impacts and abrasion without compromising performance.

A typical application example involves the precise integration of the sensor into transfer tables for the accurate detection of sheet materials. The spherical lens design plays a critical role here, preventing debris from impeding its function and guaranteeing smooth, uninterrupted operation even in dusty conditions. Similarly, the M5 is widely deployed for detecting weld points, identifying subtle differences in surface appearance with unparalleled accuracy, and a myriad of other applications, including the reliable detection of plastic films.

Typical application areas

The M5 sensor's inherent precision and adaptability make it an ideal choice for industries where critical accuracy is paramount:

Thin Material Detection: Perfectly suited for monitoring the passage of sheets, foils, or plastic films on transfer tables, offering outstanding reliability.

Surface Differentiation: Highly effective at identifying weld points or subtle variations in surface appearance with consistent accuracy.

The detection of transparent objects and plastic films.

A compact sensor with maximum impact

Combining cutting-edge optics with rugged durability, the Contrinex M5 photoelectric miniature sensor, with its sapphire glass and new IO-Link capability, is engineered to deliver long-lasting, high-performance detection even in the most arduous production environments.

Many manufacturers are now opting for the M5 sensor as an alternative to fibre-optic solutions. The preference stems from the M5's self-contained design, straightforward cabled connections, and the tangible price and cost savings it offers.
