Extrusions for materials handling

Pennine Industrial Equipment has been involved with the design, manufacture and supply of UHMW-PE (ultra high molecular weight polyethylene) extruded wear strips and guide rail extrusions for over 25 years, with a vast wealth of knowledge to assist in the correct selection of both the individual profile required and best grade of material to meet the demands of the material handling industry. Pennine Industrial holds over 85 different extruded UHMW-PE profiles and carries large stocks of the profiles.

Extrusions for materials handling

>UHMW-PE Profiles have outstanding resistance to impact and have an excellent combination of both physical and mechanical properties which are maintained over a wide temperature range. They have excellent self lubricating properties and are highly resistant to corrosion in chemically active environments. The properties of UHMW-PE make it the most wear resistant non metallic material available to the material handling industry. All of the extruded UHMW-PE profiles are approved to FDA and USDA standards and suitable for direct contact with food and pharmaceutical products.

>Standard 1000 grade UHMW-PE offers excellent wear resistance up to a surface speed of 30m/min and suitable for constant use between -240 and +85°C. Alongside the standard white 1000 grade extrusions, Pennine Industrial also offers a range of special UHMW-PE grades, with a selection of additives to increase performance depending on individual applications. For example there is the Prem-Lube range, where UHMW-PE and a food grade fluid lubricant are blended together to produce a high speed, very low friction, wear resistant material suitable for surface speeds between 30m/min and 152m/min. During operation an oil film is generated on the surface of the material and this significantly reduces friction by up to 50%. Then there is glass filled UHMW-PE, designed and developed for high impact applications often used on canning and bottling lines where impact is at the greatest on corners and can twists.

>There is also MoS2 filled Nylon used in the canning and bottling industries for its impact strength, as well as antistatic grades, silicon-free grades, Nylon and Nylon 6.6 grades.

>Key products in the range include stainless steel backed UHMW-PE guide rails, and aluminium guide rails and wear strips. All stainless steel guide rails are of solid design and are manufactured using 14 gauge 304 stainless steel backing, with 1000 grade UHMW polyethylene insert to give outstanding resistance to impact and wear. Standard length is 10ft, however other lengths are available on request. All aluminium guide rails are manufactured from high quality aluminium and are available separately or supplied with a choice of 1000 grade UHMW polyethylene wear strips which have outstanding resistance to impact and wear. Standard lengths are 10ft and 20ft.
