Engineers from maxon UK and Ireland will provide precision drive system design advice at Machine Building Live, Stand 103, at the NAEC, Stoneleigh Park, on 15 October. The company's engineers will discuss drive system technology with visiting machine builders, explaining how to optimise a machine's motion cycle by enhancing precision and throughput.
maxon's drive systems are focused on precision control for compact applications up to 1 kW, with a product portfolio based on high torque density DC and brushless DC (BLDC) motors. The Swiss drive system specialist also provides high precision and efficiency gearheads, alongside robotic joints that integrate a full drive system including sensors and controls.
maxon's controller range includes motor controllers that modulate the speed and position of individual axes, as well as multi-axis motion controllers that can coordinate up to six motors. Designed for decentralised machine control, the controller range communicates over high-speed EtherCAT or Profinet. The range is available with a protective housing and power stages or as PCB-based units ready for embedded integration.
The company's UK and Ireland engineering team is also able to facilitate drive system customisation to suit specific machine design requirements, and around 80% of maxon's products are tailored to suit individual projects. Bespoke engineering ranges from custom motor winding to optimise torque density, through to streamlining cabling to reduce cost.
For UK and Ireland machine builders, an advantage of the maxon partnership is drive system engineering support throughout a project, from specification through to commissioning and beyond. At MachineBuilding.Live, maxon's engineers will explain how this relationship has benefitted customers around the world. The team will also address motion design queries presented by machine builders at the show.
Producing two million drives per year, maxon ensures consistency for high-volume OEM supply, supported by the EN ISO 9001 quality management standard and the EN ISO 14001 environmental management system.
"We're at MachineBuilding.Live to show UK machine builders how we can improve the quality, productivity, and efficiency of their machines," explains William Mason, Managing Director, maxon UK and Ireland. "Our catalogue of precision drive system products is presented by a UK and Ireland engineering team that support customisation to meet the needs of specific machines. This capability not only enhances machine performance but speeds up development and time to market for OEMs."
