maxon presents precision drive system engineering at Lab Innovations

maxon UK and Ireland is inviting laboratory equipment designers to its stand at the Lab Innovations exhibition to learn about the latest developments in precision drive system technology.

On Stand E46 at Lab Innovations, taking place 29 and 30 October at the NEC, Birmingham, maxon will present the latest technology in DC and brushless DC motors, gears, spindle drives, and controls, designed to optimise precision and reliability for cutting-edge science.

At the exhibition, maxon is encouraging lab automation designers to discuss their drive system design challenges with maxon's engineering team, led by Sandro Walter, maxon's global Industrial Business Unit lead. maxon's engineers will provide advice on drive system design, including custom development capabilities for OEM-scale manufacturing.

Within lab automation, maxon's expertise has a particular focus on liquid handling machines. Drive systems are responsible for the motion of the pipetting head, which requires high precision and repeatable performance. At the exhibition, maxon's engineers will discuss the design requirements to develop a complete multi-axis drive system architecture.

maxon's high torque density 8mm and 16mm BLDC motors and precision gearheads can actuate an automated liquid handling machine's X, Y, and Z axes, and the brand can also drive a syringe piston pump. maxon's drive systems can integrate spindle drive mechanisms with custom development options including ceramic materials to minimise friction, increase efficiency, and extend lifetime.

The drive systems specialist also provides precision servo controls including encoders and position controllers, as well as multi-axis master controllers designed for up to six motor axes.

In addition to automated liquid handling machines, maxon partners with OEMs spanning sectors within lab automation including diagnostics, life sciences, and analytical chemistry. This covers applications including DNA sequencing, electronic pipettes, point of care diagnostics, robotic arms, and sample tube decapping.

Lab equipment design engineers in the UK & Ireland are supported by maxon's engineers who can specify complete drive systems and coordinate with maxon's R&D team at the company's Switzerland headquarters. Meanwhile, drive system manufacture meets EN 9001 and SN EN ISO 13485 certification.

"Laboratory automation equipment designers need precision and high repeatability from the drive systems that their machines rely on, which is a perfect fit for maxon's capabilities," says maxon UK & Ireland Managing Director, William Mason. "Our engineering team is at Lab Innovations to discuss design engineering challenges and to advise on the drive system technology that can optimise lab automation equipment."
