Yuasa power Honda Yuasa Racing to 2015 BTCC title win

Yuasa Battery Sales (UK) is celebrating another successful motorsport season after Honda Yuasa Racing driver ‘Flash’ Gordon Shedden won the 2015 British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) title in dramatic style.

The now double-BTCC-champion arrived at the legendary Brands Hatch GP Circuit season finale on 11 October holding a 23-point lead in the standings. After a sixth place in the day’s first race, contact from behind in race two left the Scot with damaged suspension and he subsequently struggled to a 19th place finish.

Starting the decider from the same lowly position, Shedden had it all to do, especially after title rival Jason Plato surged into a commanding lead on lap one.

He responded magnificently scything his way up through the field in spectacular fashion. And after a nail-biting, relentless 18-lap attack, came home in a superb fourth place. This phenomenal performance saw him clinch the driver’s crown for the second time ahead of his title rival Jason Plato.

Shedden’s team mate, and three-time-BTCC-champion himself, Matt Neal capped his 25th season in the sport by securing third place in the driver’s standings. Both drivers have enjoyed remarkable success with Honda Yuasa Racing’s Civic Type Rs this year, and their consistency and strong results have been rewarded with victory in the manufacturer’s title.

Yuasa has a long and proud heritage in BTCC racing, having sponsored the Team Dynamics run Honda operation since 2010. This year’s championship wins now mean the battery manufacturer has claimed the BTCC driver’s crown three times, and manufacturer’s trophy five times in the last six years.
