ABB has entered into a strategic collaboration with Austria-based Engineering Software Steyr (ESS) to develop powerful simulation tools that will transform automotive paint shop operations while reducing costs by up to 30 percent. As part of the collaboration, ABB will take a minority investment in ESS.

ABB says its CEM-DAS is the first data acquisition and handling system (DAHS) on the market to successfully pass testing in line with EN 17255, the first international standard for DAHS in emissions monitoring. Two Renishaw apprentices have been recognised as the brightest young talents in industrial robotics, winning the prestigious WorldSkills UK competition. Morgan Leyshon and Aled Gore, both 21 and from Bridgend, Wales, secured the gold medal in Industrial Robotics, beating over 80 contenders in an eight-month-long contest.

As part of a commissioned study by Kistler, researchers at Ostfalia University of Applied Sciences investigated the energy efficiency of three joining processes with different drive technologies - electromechanical joining systems as well as hydraulic and pneumatic ones. The results show that the electromechanical variant is the most efficient in terms of joining work alone, ie the joining stroke.
