Altra completes acquisition of Stromag

Altra Industrial Motion, a global manufacturer and marketer of electromechanical power transmission and motion control products, has closed on the acquisition of the Stromag business from GKN. Stromag generated approximately 131 million euros in revenue in 2015, and the acquisition is anticipated to be accretive to Altra’s earnings in 2017, excluding any one-time or acquisition-related costs.

LG Motion develops customised positioning system for Diamond Light Source

Basingstoke based LG Motion has designed and manufactured a customised beamline detector positioning system for Diamond Light Source, the UK’s national synchrotron science facility. The system illuminates miniscule crystal samples with an X-ray beam and the detectors are positioned to a precision of just a few tens of microns to capture scattered light that reveals the complexities of protein structure and their functions.

Igus has introduced a new variant of its iglidur tribopolymer material, RW370, that complies with EU fire protection standard EN 45545 for railway vehicles. Resistant to harsh media and extremely durable, the new material is well-suited to a wide range of bearing applications within rail transportation systems, including door guides and hinges, as well as in rotating joints and adjusting mechanisms for seats and tables.

Well, I never saw that one coming

There are some things in life that you never see coming: Ed Balls hanging on in Strictly; the Conservatives winning the last election; Brexit; and Donald Trump winning in the US. Every American I spoke to, while agreeing that these were probably the worst two candidates they’d ever had to choose between, was utterly convinced that Hilary Clinton would win, and that she was the only rational choice. Funnily enough, one of those Americans, CarGurus founder Langley Steinert, was in the UK on 23 June, and told me he hadn’t seen Brexit coming either. So how have all of these monumental events come to pass?
