Manufacturers call for a support programme to help alleviate lack of skilled labour

A recent survey undertaken by Festo Training and Consulting and Works Management shows that skills shortages within the UK manufacturing and engineering sector have increased over the past three years and the majority of respondents believe that a more committed support programme would help alleviate these skills shortages.

Reliance Precision receives Â£300k aerospace funding boost

Reliance Precision reports that the Self-Healing Alloys for Precision Engineering (SHAPE) Programme in which Reliance, as one of the lead industrial partners, has been awarded £300k of funding by the Aerospace Technology Institute (ATI) and the UK’s innovation agency, Innovate UK. The objective is to produce light-weight components made from self-healing alloys, which when used in aircraft design could significantly reduce fuel costs (over the life of an aircraft estimated at 44,595 litres less used per kg of reduced weight) and decrease CO2 emissions.

Clean bill of health for William Hughes

William Hughes has opened 80m² high specification clean room at its Stalbridge, Dorset headquarters. Rated at Class 7 in accordance with ISO 14644-1, this advanced subcontract facility is the only one of its kind in the UK. It is already being used by some of the best known manufacturers in sectors such as aerospace and hydraulics for the cleaning of small batch, precision machined and fabricated parts to meticulous standards.
