The perils of riding the change curve

In what I'm going to describe as a guerilla information systems swoop, I sneaked into the office over the Christmas break and installed a new telecoms suite. I use the term telecoms suite rather than just telephone, because my new system does so much more than the old telephone. Not only does it have more function buttons than I have ever seen on a phone, it also integrates seamlessly with my iPhone, acts as a base station for 14 other dect phones (not sure where I'm going to put those yet), provides support for wired and wireless headsets and, most importantly of all, connects via Ethernet to my computer to integrate with my database software. In every measurable way it is light years ahead of my previous telephone.

Spirol receives 2014 General Motors Supplier Quality Excellence Award

For the third consecutive year, Spirol Industries has received the General Motors Supplier Quality Excellence Award. The award was received on behalf of the entire Spirol team by Daniel McLean, quality manager and Chris Stanton, operations manager. Spirol is one of only 80 GM suppliers to receive the award all three years.

Measuring robot works tirelessly outdoors

Headquartered in the United States, John Deere is a global leader in the manufacture of machinery for agriculture, forestry and construction as well as for garden care. The company employs approximately 60,000 people in 68 factories and development centres around the world. Their ultra-modern European Technology Innovation Centre is in Kaiserslautern, Germany. Staff at ETIC collaborate with John Deere factories on developing innovative technologies and taking them through to the production stage where they are integrated into machinery. The focus is on "precision farming".

Formula One racing is probably the pinnacle of performance and speed in sports. And it's as much a development race as it is a race on track. Racing teams are always pushing the boundaries of technology in search of higher performance and reliability. Henkel shows extensive adhesives capabilities at Southern Manufacturing

Regardless of which substrates need to be bonded and the conditions that prevail, if it's technically possible, Henkel says it can provide the most appropriate product. Its range of adhesives incorporate five core technologies - epoxies, acrylics, polyurethanes, silane-modified polymers and silicones. Henkel also provides dispensing equipment from simple hand-held devices to fully automated systems, specifically designed to make the application of products precise, economical and clean.
