Automotive qualified VCSELs from Laser Components

Laser Components offers an extensive range of Vertical Cavity Surface Emitting Laser diodes (VCSELs), which have significant advantages over conventional edge emitting laser diodes. VCSELs are cheaper to produce since they can be probe tested on wafer and the yield is generally higher. They also offer more design choice of output aperture size and shape, which can produce a more desirable beam shape.

New to the Laser Components VCSEL range are a family of 940nm single and dual junction VCSELs which have passed AEC-Q102 automotive qualification testing as well as Bump Test of 50g (50 times the acceleration of gravity). With output powers ranging from 10mW up to 400W, the company can now offer VCSELS for most automotive applications including LiDAR, in-cabin sensing and ADAS.

The automotive qualification also means that this family of devices are very durable, and the certification standards exceed the quality requirements of consumer electronics and industrial applications, so they are also highly competitive in consumer electronics and industrial applications such as facial recognition and 2D NIR imaging.
