Supporting the next generation of Engineers in the UK is an important commitment made by precision bearings and bearing tools specialist Carter Manufacturing as illustrated by its attendance at the recent Oxford Brookes Racing (OBR) car launch event.
Carter has been supporting the OBR university motorsport team for over a decade, helping them as a key supplier providing specialist bearings in addition to proven engineering skills.
The OBR team recently celebrated their most successful Formula Student (FS) electric vehicle (EV) season to date, finishing third overall out of sixty-one teams at the May meeting. The team completed the endurance event for the first time as an EV and won the acceleration event taking home the Multimatic Excellence Award for vehicle dynamics along with the Faraday Institution Best EV Powertrain Award.
Whilst celebrating this recent success the OBR team are looking forward to the rest of 2026 by continuing to develop their engineering skills with a decision to redesign their car from the ground up. This involves a new chassis, new suspension kinematics, a fully air-cooled forced convection motor system, a significantly overhauled accumulator pushing past 100kW of regenerative power, along with a host of in-house developed electronics.
The OBR team has grown to 67 members from across 43 nationalities and are now looking forward to competing at FS UK at Silverstone in July as well as Formula Student Germany, their first appearance at the famous Hockenheim circuit.
In recognition of Carter's support, Torah Ladouceur, the Suspension Team Leader on the OBR team commented, "On behalf of the OBR team I wanted to extend our sincere thanks for your support at the launch event and we are incredibly grateful for your time, expertise and resources that helped bring the car and event together.
"It would not be possible to achieve what we do, especially in the suspension section without the support of Carter Bearings. With a complete redesign this year we used your bearings in our carbon fibre wishbones, track rods, pushrods, the Anti-Roll bars and within the upright and corner assembly."
