Chemists look to higher viscosities

Chemence research and development chemists have solved a production problem for a large manufacturer in the electronics industry. The company bonds rubber gaskets to aluminium on a production line with very short cycle times. It was using RiteLok SF100 cyanoacrylate adhesive and asked Chemence to develop a higher viscosity material for an application where controlled squeeze out and the ability to work on inclined surfaces without dripping are important. Additionally, the assembled parts had to undergo rigorous environmental tests before approval.

Chemence"s in-house team of chemists were able to develop the new adhesive, retaining the fast cure and strength while adding the required rheological properties. In tests against rival adhesives, RiteLok SF600 came out top and has now been introduced. Product Manager David Mann comments: "This new adhesive not only solved the customer problem but will have applications in many industries." The new product is now available to all customers. It is packed in 20g, 50g and 500g bottles and will be used for assembly and repair of articles made from plastic, rubber, metal, paper, wood, leather and many other common materials.
