Create cases for working prototypes

CamdenBoss has teamed up with RS Components to offer an online ordering facility for its innovative flat-sheet plastic enclosure technology FSPT. For the first time, users of RS Components' DesignSpark community will be able to order custom-sized plastic cases that can be created in small quantities very quickly for prototyping and low volume production runs without the need for a mould tool.

Create cases for working prototypes

>In a first-of-its kind development, DesignSpark brings the opportunity to order the plastic cases online, completely designed to customers' unique specifications and delivered in less than two weeks. In just two easy steps, users can create and order a custom case manufactured from 3mm or 4mm thick plastic sheet available in various colours and finishes. Six different styles of enclosure are available measuring from 20mm minimum to 400mm maximum for length and width and 13mm minimum to 200mm maximum depth.

>Once the dimensions have been specified, the online ordering system creates a part number for the enclosure, shows prices for different quantities and even allows download of a 3D model in one of 31 different CAD formats. Once the customer is happy with the design, they can place an order via the RS Components website which will process the part and provide email confirmation. Finished enclosures will be delivered within two weeks.

>The new Custom Cases service on DesignSpark is ideal for product development and enables designers to present prototype electronics systems in a made-to-measure enclosure that will enable the customer to see the product in its finished production-ready appearance. The manufacturing process is also capable of delivering enclosures in low to medium volume production quantities enabling products to be tested in the market before committing to the higher set up costs associated with volume manufacturing.

>Currently the service enables ordering of basic enclosures without additional features such as holes and cut-outs for connectors, power cables and indicators, PCB mounting slots and other modifications. CamdenBoss and RS Components are working closely together to develop the next phase of this exciting state-of-the-art rapid prototyping to production facility that will allow users to further modify the enclosure with many additional features.
