Designer's guide to machine safety

Procter Machine Guarding has updated its publication On Your Guard - A Designer's Guide to Machinery Guarding Standards to reflect recent changes to standards. In addition, the ninth edition includes numerous standards relating to other aspects of machinery safety, and there are many more 'Type C' standards for specific classes of machine.

Designer's guide to machine safety

>At the heart of the guide is an extensive table of British, European and International standards; this table has been heavily revised to reflect recent changes and to add more standards. Indeed, the ninth edition of the guide lists over 80 standards and other published documents relating to machinery safety. Further changes in the new edition include the latest statistics for industrial accidents, as well as updated lists of useful resources and sources of further information.

>As with previous editions of the guide, there is important background information about the current machinery safety regulations and their relationship with the European Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, together with the Directive's requirements relating to CE marking of machinery and guarding. Another section covers the subject of risk assessment and risk reduction, and there is practical advice on designing machine guards to comply with the standards.

>On Your Guard - A Designer's Guide to Machinery Guarding Standards is essential reading for anyone responsible for specifying, designing, installing or maintaining machine guards, whatever the nature of the 'machine' as defined in the Machinery Directive. A PDF copy of the publication can be ordered from the 'Downloads' link on the company's website.
