The HARTING Technology Group is an industry leader in the fields of electrical, electronic and optical connection, transmission and networking. Founded in 1945 and headquartered in Espelkamp, Germany, HARTING remains family owned, and despite its European roots has become a global company. In the UK, HARTING Ltd., based in Northampton, has over 100 employees, and turnover is currently in excess of £15 million.
The HARTING Technology Group is skilled in the fields of electrical, electronic and optical connection, transmission and networking, as well as in manufacturing, mechatronics and software creation. The Group uses these skills to develop customised solutions and products such as connectors for energy and data-transmission applications in sectors that include mechanical engineering, rail technology, wind energy plants, factory automation, broadcast and entertainment and the telecommunications sector.
Han industrial connectors
HARTING’s range of Han industrial connectors are suited for the most demanding requirements in industrial environments. They are used in all applications requiring a safe and removable electrical connection, from control cabinets up to outdoor applications. The product range incorporates small connectors capable of a few amps up to large multi-way high power connections. The possible combination of connectors allows sensitive signals of a few millivolts to be handled alongside currents up to 600 A or voltages up to 5000 V in high-power applications.
The Han-Modular connector range is based on a metal mounting frame which can accommodate a combination of modules for power, signals, data, optical or pneumatic interfaces. The current family includes power modules for 16 A, 40 A, 70 A and 100 A; signal modules with up to 25 contacts; shielded modules for up to 20 contacts; data modules for USB, FireWire, RJ45 or Gigabit Ethernet; optical interfaces for POF (plastic optical fibre) or glass fibre; and pneumatic modules for 3, 4 or 6 mm tube diameter. Each style can be protected to comply with shielding requirements. As an open connector system that is being continuously expanded, the Han-Modular series allows customised connector configurations to be assembled to meet individual user requirements.
Han-Yellock is an innovative industrial connector series incorporating an internal latched locking mechanism on the connector hood, a wide range of modules to offer a large number of potential configurations, an adaptor frame for use with modules in HARTING’s Han-Modular series, insulators that can snap into the front or back walls of the housing, and a protected earth (PE) contact in crimp or Quick Lock termination. Han-Eco is a complete range of high-quality all-plastic industrial connector housings that combine ruggedness, light weight and reduced costs with versatility, safety and reliability.
Han-Eco is the ideal solution for users who require a cost-effective, lightweight product and who do not require the full range of product features offered by HARTING’s established Han B series of connector housings.
HARTING is an industry leader in both board-to-board connectors for the economical assembly of electronic devices and equipment and interface connectors providing input/output connectivity solutions for electronic data transmission via copper or fibre optic links.
Board-to-board connectors offer maximum packing density and optimal performance with regard to signal transmission and integrity.
The comprehensive HARTING interface connector range offers a wide choice of input/output connectivity solutions for electronic data transmission via copper or fibre optic links. The hybrid versions combine data and power in one connector, and the transmission of high and ultra high-speed data rates for indoor and outdoor applications is the key feature of this product family.
Ha-VIS RFID systems
The HARTING Ha-VIS RFID system combines rugged, high-performance RFID tags with powerful data pre-processing to ensure high-speed data transmission and optimum dynamic network performance. An efficient software solution allows the scaling of RFID solutions from individual tags through to enterprise-wide solutions across different locations. As an aid to integration of the RFID transponding functions, all the tags provide UHF and HF technology as standard features. Their rugged design and construction allows them to be used in a wide range of industrial environments, including mounting on metal surfaces. HARTING also provide a range of readers and antenna to complete the offering.
Smart Network Infrastructure
HARTING supplies a range of Ethernet network switches and cabling that provides the communication platform for a convergent automation-IT network. The performance of these network components enables universal applications for IP 20 to IP 67 installations in harsh environment in industry machinery and factory automation systems. The industrial Ethernet components comply with the relevant industry standards for use in transport and energy applications.
These products form the basis for a family of total interconnect solutions for HARTING’s vision of “integrated industry”. This is where systems, hardware, software and embedded electronics come together in an integrated smart network infrastructure that forms the basis of the factory of the future.
HARTING Integrated Solutions
HARTING’s contract manufacturing business - HARTING Integrated Solutions (HIS) - develops, manufactures and tests customer-specific backplane solutions for a wide diversity of application areas. As a complete interconnectivity component supplier and solution specialist, HARTING is able to offer its customers innovative solutions that make cost-intensive wiring unnecessary, reduce the depth of assemblies, and consequently provide crucial space and optimum cost benefits for the customer.
HARTING’s Value Added Business operation designs and produces cable and harness assemblies to carry power, control signals, embedded processor I/O, Ethernet communications, data pulses, and any combination of these. HARTING’s capabilities span the range from short assemblies for electrical enclosures to 100-metre long multipurpose cables for wind turbine down-tower applications. These assemblies can include hybrid connectors, mounting brackets, exotic insulation, flexible conduit, or simply pigtail leads.
Components used in cable assemblies include HARTING’s industry-leading Han connectors with their rugged design, convenient handling and modularity of data, signal and power connections, plus the har family of board connectors and interconnection solutions for devices in the IP 20 to IP 65/67 protection categories.
