Drive Technology Insight event attracts over 100 engineers

maxon UK and Ireland's Drive Technology Insight 2024 event attracted over 100 engineers to the Williams F1 Conference Centre for a day of DC motor technology presentations and engineering discussion. 120 engineers attended drive technology seminars and took part in one-to-one application design talks.

Drive Technology Insight featured five keynote technical presentations by maxon's engineering leaders, covering subjects ranging from drive system design for extreme environments, through to motor control techniques.

"The technical seminars on DC motor technology will help design engineers understand more about selecting the right drive system for the demands of their specific applications," says maxon UK and Ireland's Managing Director, William Mason. "Our UK and Ireland team includes a high level of engineering expertise. Engaging presentations, followed by question and answer sessions, have proven very useful to help visiting engineers grow their drive technology knowledge."

The technical briefings were supported by individual discussions, giving the opportunity for design engineers to receive drive system feedback and advice about their own applications.

"The event attracted a range of engineers from a variety of industries across the UK, from designing hand-held medical power tools or factory machinery, through to powering drones and underwater vehicles," says William. "Every application is different, but what they have in common is the reliance on a compact, high performance DC motor drive system. Here, design engineers have been able to talk face-to-face with DC motor technology experts about how to optimise drive systems for their own applications."

Feedback on Drive Technology Insight from event attendees said: "The presentations were engaging and informative, and the speakers were excellent." Discussing individual presentations, a fellow attendee reported: "The presentation 'Demystifying motor and gearbox technologies' gave a good understanding of how and why motors act as they do. It's essential knowledge that I wish I'd known before."

Breakout sessions between the presentations also gave visiting engineers the opportunity to exchange ideas with fellow industry professionals.

Hosted at the Williams F1 Conference Centre, visitors had the opportunity to experience the world's largest private collection of Formula One racing cars, charting the history and key moments of Williams F1's history including the years of Nigel Mansell, Damon Hill, and Ayrton Senna.

Held over periodic years, the 2024 running was the third editon of maxon's Drive Technology Insight, and the event was sold out, reaching the full capacity of visiting engineers.
