Gas struts deliver when safety is key

The commercial print market is evolving rapidly. Pre-press businesses need to respond quickly to their customers' demands for better quality and faster processing - and require affordable and reliable equipment that allows them to achieve that. At the forefront of technology in this field, HighWater Designs is using a bespoke gas strut solution from Industrial Gas Springs (IGS) for safe operation of its latest computer to plate (CtP) imaging system.

Gas struts deliver when safety is key

A regular customer of IGS for more than a decade, HighWater uses gas springs in the design of its digital integration and creative imaging products for the pre-press and related graphic arts industries. IGS assessed HighWater's requirements, based on the specification provided and supplied samples for the company to prove out on the lid of its new Cobra 8 manual load/unload engine.

The 150mm stroke size 6 gas spring features metal eye end-fittings and is pressurised to meet certain criteria. The gas strut is required to provide a push and pull effect, so that the lid will remain secure in the open position with the spring at fully extension. The application demands minimal operator closing force, relying on the weight of the lid to ensure it shuts firmly.
