ifm has introduced the AL1602, a multiprotocol-capable IO-Link master from the AutomationLine range. Designed for decentralised use directly in the field, the new device combines flexible I/O configuration, high output current, and robust IP67 construction to support scalable automation across a wide range of industrial applications where reliable field-level installation is required such as Intralogistics.
The AL1602 represents a new generation of decentralised IO-Link masters within the AutomationLine series. It addresses a common challenge in mechanical and plant engineering: reducing engineering effort whilst maintaining flexibility across different control architectures. By consolidating communication, power supply, and configuration into a single field-mounted unit, the AL1602 helps standardise machine designs and reduce the number of type variants required.
The master provides eight IO-Link ports supporting class A and B, with 16 freely configurable digital inputs and outputs. Thanks to the optimised device architecture, these channels can be configured and operated flexibly to match the demands of each application. A current rating of up to 2 A per output makes the AL1602 well-suited to powerful actuators, including the direct control of motorised rollers, conveyor drives, diverters, and stoppers.
Constructed for demanding industrial environments, the AL1602 features a glass-fibre reinforced polycarbonate housing and a fully potted printed circuit board. With an IP67 protection rating and an operating temperature range of -40 to 70 degC, the device is well-suited to decentralised installation in the field. The common ground concept (GND US = GND UA, without electrical separation) enables a compact, cost-efficient design, whilst the integrated daisy-chain function simplifies voltage supply to multiple masters and significantly reduces wiring effort.
An integrated multiprotocol interface allows the AL1602 to be integrated into different fieldbus architectures without changing the hardware. This supports standardisation, reduces type versions, and sustainably minimises engineering effort across projects. For parameter setting of the IO-Link infrastructure, the device is compatible with moneo|configure free.
