Flexicon has launched a tinned copper braid system to screen cables from electromagnetic, electrostatic and RF interference. Available in a range of diameters, FTCB can be sleeved over cables before they are drawn into conduits. It is normally supplied on a disposable PVC former or it can be supplied in flat form on a reel by request.
>FTCB provides EMC screening at 67dB at 1Mhz for 20mm. It can also provide abrasion resistance, mechanical support and can be used in temperatures between -50°C to +300°C
>The company has also developed new versions of its FPA and FPAX fittings with an internal clamp assembly to terminate the braid when it is used inside corrugated conduit. This provides a high IP rating of IP66, IP67, IP68 and IP69 plus a high tensile strength of up to 70kg.
>Says Ian Gibson technical director for Flexicon: "There is an ever increasing number of applications that require data integrity on safety critical systems and we already have a number of conduit systems that provide EMC protection.
>"FTCB allows you to provide such protection and combine it with any of our corrugated conduit systems according to what other hazards the cabling may face. Corrosion resistance is assured because the tinned copper screen is on the inside of the non-metallic conduit.
>"When specifying an EMC system you should ensure that any screening is independently tested and check its performance across a range of frequencies. It is worth checking the EMC performance graphs when comparing alternatives, especially if you are responsible for the installation.
