New product label supports automated goods receipt

To further optimise logistics processes, Phoenix Contact is introducing new product labels that simplify automated goods receipt and goods issue for its customers.

The new product labels display essential information, such as the item number, quantity, production date, batch, and country of origin as a 1D bar code and/or a 2D data matrix code. Automatically scanning in the codes increases productivity in goods receipt and goods issue by reducing the manual workload of logistics staff.

The new product label meets the requirements set by the manufacturers and distributors who are members of the ECIA (Electronic Components Industry Association). Due to the new design, all mandatory information is displayed as scan codes in the manner required. For reasons of sustainability and cost efficiency, Phoenix Contact has ensured that the compact format of the previous labels has been retained.

The new product label will become the current corporate standard and will be used across the entire standard product portfolio at Phoenix Contact. During the transition period, shipments will contain a mixture of label formats.

As key customers attest, Phoenix Contacts new labels support the efficient realization of their logistics processes. Working with Phoenix Contact to define the new label was very effective. Our requirements were implemented in a collaborative process and, in the future, will lead to the efficient flow of goods in goods receipt and goods issue, explains Michaela Fritz, vice president of warehouse operations and supply chain programs at TTI.
