OEM Automatic supports local college by donating laptops
Gareth Ford, business area manager at OEM Automatic, saw a local news bulletin about a charity called Business2School which was raising awareness of the shortage of laptops and computers available for children and students as they work from home.
Business2Schools is a charity which places no-longer-needed tech and furniture donated by businesses into schools. The demand for extra technology to help children and students to continue learning at home has surged since schools have closed due to national lockdown restrictions.
Gareth made contact with Countesthorpe Academy, the local college, and arranged for six laptops to be donated to students who require adequate computers in order to successfully continue their studies at home.
Adam Parkin, IT manager for OEM Automatic said: “We have equipment that, whilst not suitable for our latest software packages, are still great laptops and could be used by students for their online learning. OEM Automatic is proud to be able to support local young people to continue their education whilst at home.”
Mrs McKenzie, Assistant Principal at Countesthorpe Academy, was really happy to receive this donation. “Whilst we have been really fortunate to receive a number of government laptops, the demand for these during this lockdown has surged, so we are incredibly grateful to receive six more to add to our bank,” she said. “These laptops will help students who don’t have access to suitable devices to fully participate in their online learning.”
OEM Automatic has plans to donate more laptops, office equipment and furniture to local schools or colleges in the coming months and urge other companies to do the same.
