PM couplings for severe shock loads, vibration and fail-safe operation

On extremely arduous applications with the most severe shock loading and vibration Renold's PM rubber-in-compression couplings are able to protect plant and equipment. Rubber-in-compression couplings are made up of two round steel sections with what looks like the paddles of a paddle steamer projecting inwards from the outer section and outwards from the inner.

>Rubber blocks are placed in the spaces in-between the paddles, and, as the outer section is turned by the prime mover, the inner section is driven through the rubber blocks. As this happens the rubber is compressed and hence the term, 'rubber-in-compression.'

>Renold's engineers are able to eliminate problems with vibration by calculating the natural frequency of the drive train and selecting a PM coupling with a rubber grade and hardness to ensure that the natural frequency of the drive train is outside its operating speed range. The couplings are intrinsically fail-safe, maintenance free and are ideally suited to applications such as mining and quarrying, metal manufacture, mineral processing, pumps and general heavy-duty industrial applications.
