Bellows couplings designed for solar manufacturing equipment Bellows couplings from Ruland offer a high degree of accuracy and repeatability for renewable solar energy applications including test and measurement, wafer handling, panel processing, and vision systems for photovoltaic and concentrated photovoltaic cells, panel, and thin-film production equipment.

The combination of anodised aluminium hubs with a stainless steel bellows results in a lightweight, low inertia coupling that remains stiff under torsional loads. A balanced design reduces vibration for high speed applications up to 10,000 rpm. Bellows couplings are able to accommodate all types of misalignment with low bearing loads due to the thin stainless steel walls of the bellows. They are zero backlash and have no moving parts, allowing for a long, maintenance free life and making them ideal for high end stepper or servo driven systems.

Ruland offers clamp or set screw style bellows couplings with straight, stepped, or inch to metric bores ranging from 3mm to 25mm. Stainless steel hubs, keyways, and other custom design features are available by special order.

Also new from Ruland are disc couplings for highly accurate systems found in industries such as test and measurement, medical, semiconductor, solar, and liquid handling. The disc couplings have low inertia and are torsionally stiff making them suitable for precise zero-backlash systems with speeds up to 10,000 rpm.

Disc couplings are comprised of two black anodised aluminium hubs and multiple flat stainless steel disc springs. Single disc styles are ideal for systems where compact installation is required. Double disc styles add a center spacer to increase the misalignment capabilities. The centre spacer is available in a choice of anodised aluminium or insulating acetal for electrical isolation. The thin disc springs allow for a substantial amount of misalignment between shafts, while remaining rigid under torque loads. Parallel misalignment is accommodated by the double disc style or by two single disc couplings used in tandem.

Ruland single and double disc couplings are available in both clamp style and set screw style with bore sizes ranging from 3mm to 30mm. Disc couplings are part of Ruland's complete product line which also includes shaft collars, rigid couplings with precision honed bores and five types of zero-backlash motion control couplings.
