Compact servo motors bring precise control

ABB's HDP range of asynchronous servo motors offers high dynamic performance motors for machine builders and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) from 19 to 1400Nm (2 to 270kW). The motors feature high power density and a square shape, making them easy to build into machines. The motor sizes emulate those of DC motors and can replace these size for size. The HDP range has exceptionally high dynamic performance, using a light rotor with small diameter to minimize inertia.

The new motors will find uses in areas as diverse as injection moulding, winders and unwinders in paper prod-uction, cranes, lifting and conveying, test benches, theatre scene automation, park rides and spindle drives. They are robust and suitable for operation in harsh environmental conditions.

The new range of motors includes mounting form B3, B35, V1 and V35 with IP54 protection and axial cooling, and IP23 protection with radial fan. A wide range of accessories is available, including speed and position transducers, resolvers, encoders, holding brakes, insulated non drive end bearings and winding temperature protection.
Maximum speed is 9000rpm and the motors feature forced air cooling. Available in voltages from 400V up to 460V, they are supplied with four poles for frame sizes 132, 160 and 200, and with six poles for frame size 100. Ball bearings are standard, while roller bearings can be supplied as an option.

The HDP servo motor family is optimised for operation with the ABB machinery drive, a performance range rated from 0.75 to 45kW that uses standard AC drive technology but which offers significant performance improvements.
