Connectivity lifeline for Industry 4.0

Harting has introduced three Industry 4.0 lifelines: the M12 Power connector with L-coding, the PushPull Signal 20-pin connector and a new preLink end-to-end Ethernet connection module: Power, Signal, Data. This trio operates in accordance with approaches for the industry of tomorrow, miniaturisation and modularisation trends. 

The new Harting M12 Power connector meets the demand created by energy-hungry Industry 4.0 applications in the field. It offers sufficient power carrying capabilities and at the same time it boasts a smaller design footprint, allowing users to save on both space and number of interfaces. The new universal mating face with L-coding has also emerged from adoption of this standard. At 63V/16A, the 5-pin 

L-coded connector is able to carry 0.75kW of power, making it ideal for small servo motors, field distribution boxes, field-bus-controlled I/O boxes, power supply devices and valve applications.

The M12 L-coded is expected to become the future standard connector that replaces existing M12 A-coded and 7/8in solutions. Consequently, in future, users will be able to deploy standardised and universal IP65/67 power connectors.

The PushPull Signal featuring the new 20-pole design takes the same clear step towards miniaturisation. It offers twice as many contacts in the same space as previous signal connectors, which translates as a unique position on the market.

The connectors extend the Harting V4 range and are designed to meet the needs of a wide range of camera and sensor applications. They can be loaded with up to 2A per contact which is more than enough for camera technology and to power various types of sensors. Using a joint cable to supply both power and effect signal transmission saves additional wiring – and therefore costs – for the customer. More and more sensors and actuators have to be connected in the field, while at the same time, field devices have to become more and more compact. The PushPull Signal masters this balancing act with high contact density, IP65/67 protection and a simple and fast locking mechanism. 

A signal connector like the new PushPull 20-pole in an industrial environment is robust, easy to handle and can be adapted to customer requirements. Harting’s new PushPull V4 20-pin version is an ideal solution for all combinations of bus and signal data.

The modular preLink system for Ethernet applications up to 10 Gigabit completes the trio. The preLink offers a fast and easy way to set up enterprise-wide networks that extend all the way from IT through to the manufacturing level. With the preLink concept, Harting has succeeded in separating the previously fixed connection of cables and connectors into two independent, reusable components: the preLink termination block and the interchangeable sockets and connectors.

The preLink termination block incorporates a holder for 4- or 8-wire Ethernet cable, which can be assembled with 100% certainty in a single step using the dedicated preLink assembly tool. This termination block fits into a variety of RJ45 or M12 sockets and connectors.

The modular preLink end-to-end Ethernet connection technology is now also available in the form of an RJ45 connector face in a robust Han 3A connector housing.
