Drag chains in height-adjustable touchscreens for classrooms

The digital touchscreens from the Dutch manufacturer Prowise are becoming increasingly common in classrooms and auditoriums. The matching lift systems make the innovative screens height-adjustable – so even the youngest children have easy access. The power supply for the touchscreens and lift systems, on the other hand, is reliably protected from little hands: This is ensured by individually designed drag chains from Kabelschlepp Metool.

Touchscreens from Prowise are a flexible solution for interactive teaching. “They are not designed as an add-on to conventional chalkboards, but are meant to slowly replace these,” explains Edith Kwaspen, Marketing Manager at Prowise. To ensure that the touchscreens are equally accessible for younger and older students, Prowise naturally also offers matching lift systems, which were only recently completely revised and optimized further by the company. Two new versions are currently available in addition to the regular wall model: Firstly, the iPro Mobile Lift which can be moved on wheels to wherever it is needed. Secondly, the iPro Toddler Lift which has a tilting function so it can also be used as a touchtable.

During the development of the new lift systems, Prowise placed a special focus on good functionality, while also ensuring a long service life and safety of the systems. Among other things, the mobile lifts have dual safety wheels with an automatic braking system. The drag chains from Kabelschlepp Metool, which are installed in all new lift systems, also add to aspects of safety and service life. The biggest problem for the power supply to touchscreen and lift was the trip hazard from freely hanging cables. To prevent this, Prowise moved all connections to the base plate. This in turn means that the required cables have to be guided to the top – preferably invisible and protected from little hands.

Due to the special dimensions and specific requirements, Prowise soon realized it needed a custom solution. The idea: To combine two standard drag chains from the Kabelschlepp Metool range – the Mono and TKA series – and add lamella from the EasyTrax series. The Mono series offers compact plastic drag chains with a long service life, while the TKA cable carriers offer particularly good protection of the cables due to their closed design. “We are very happy with our custom solution designed by Kabelschlepp,” Edith Kwaspen points out. As requested, the chain is closed on one side so that the cables are not visible while also being protected against damage. The robust design ensures a service life of more than 7 years – no detrimental effect on the cables was found in tests even after 10,000 test cycles.
