Drone monitoring equipment from Relec Electronics at Southern Manufacturing

Drone monitoring equipment from Relec Electronics at Southern Manufacturing

The growth in use of drones for both commercial and personal use has been phenomenal in recent years. Increasing use of drones is leading to stringent efforts being made to make their use safe with monitoring devices playing an important part in the process.

FutureLabs approached Relec Electronics for a monitor to be used for drone surveillance. The monitor had to be mounted in a Peli-Case that would be used outdoors, therefore the display needed to be high brightness, daylight readable, with a composite video connection.

Relec offers a vast range of TFT displays innumerable options to enhance and modify the panel to suit particular applications. In this instance, Relec engineers worked closely with FutureLabs, and designed a semi-custom 21.5in display that would be fit for this purpose. To meet the client's requirements the standard display was modified in several ways, including:

  • Increasing brightness from 300 cd/m2 to 1000 cd/m2.
  • Applying optical bonding into the air gap to make it daylight readable.
  • Fitting a 3mm cover glass with anti-reflective polariser to improve ruggedness and reduce reflection.
  • Providing an AD interface card with composite video input and a set of custom cables.

Relec was set up in 1978 to supply specialist electronic products and services to the professional communications, industrial and transportation markets. The company offers highly specialised power generation products supported by a team of experienced and highly qualified engineers to ensure that the high and demanding expectations of the customer can be met.
