Intertronics supplies flexible cyanoacrylate adhesive
Adhesives specialist Intertronics now supplies Born2Bond Flex, the only two-part cyanoacrylate adhesive on the market that offers an elongation of over 200 per cent. Born2Bond Flex is a flexible, elastic, low odour and low blooming “instant” cyanoacrylate adhesive that offers good adhesion to a very broad range of materials and surfaces.
Born2Bond Flex bonds most plastics, woods and metals, including porous and irregular surfaces. It absorbs vibration and impact and is able to bond substrates with differing coefficients of thermal expansion over thermal excursions. It is therefore suitable for applications including seam and joint sealing, vibration dampening, strengthening and ruggedising parts, and glass-to-rubber bonding.
The material has a fixture time of 60 seconds, so manufacturers can combine the convenience of an instant adhesive with enough open time to reposition substrates if necessary. Its non-sagging gel consistency allows for precise application, even on vertical substrates, and gap filling up to 10 mm. In its cured state, Born2Bond™ Flex is translucent and exhibits high peel strength.
“Until now, it has been difficult to find an adhesive with very fast cure combined with flexibility,” explained Peter Swanson, Managing Director of Intertronics. “Cyanoacrylate adhesives are a popular adhesive choice for many applications but have traditionally been seen as brittle — certainly not as flexible — which has limited their usage in applications where flexibility is required. Often, flexible acrylic adhesives or SMP (silane modified polymers) are considered, but with compromises on elongation or cure. Due to the unique properties of this new product, advantages can be gained in applications as diverse as flooring and panel bonding, to glass-to-rubber bonding for transport windows to luxury clothing and leather repair.”
Intertronics supplies the material in a convenient cartridge, either 10 ml or 50 ml, with a static mixing nozzle for straightforward manual or automated application. It is non-irritant and carries no hazard warning labels.
