Linear motor first to get UL approval

Linear motor first to get UL approval Anorad has become the first manufacturer entitled to put the UL (Underwriters Labs) label on its LC series linear motor range, having met the organisation’s strict regulations for product insulation and safety. UL certification is a passport for manufacturers wishing to sell in the USA, and the product now complies with UL standards 1004 and 1446. In order to make the motor compliant, Anorad’s engineers used a new method of insulation and a modified motor design. The motor is built around a special laminated coil, for which patent is pending. By using finite element analysis, the structure of this coil has been designed to optimise the fill factor of the copper and the thermal efficiency. Together with the latest generation of magnetic materials, this results in a very high power density. Indeed, the power density is higher than that of previous models. A special production method means that the coil can be completely encapsulated, making the motor extremely robust, even in harsh environments. The magnetic tracks are covered with a stainless steel plate for protection as well as for appearance. The linear motor can be used with standard brushless servo amplifiers. Hall sensors, which can easily be fitted to the motor, are available should the amplifier require commutation feedback. The motor now complies with class H 180C protection and is suitable for bus voltage of up to 650V DC.
